Yel is an event rating web app for smartphones to live rate (TV) shows or evaluate events they participate in. With the YEL platform participants can 'share' emotions, multiple times, over and over again. The feedback can help the online community to make decisions based on live data. For event owners, channel owners, TV producers it is a data collecting tool that provides insights about the participants and the TV shows.
YEL has been founded by Vincent van Witteloostuyn, a new 'startup' since July 2011. The current Version 0.9 is in beta optimized for social TV and congress/event rating and a working showcase of what the YEL platform can do. The framework, including database and API will be developed from scratch - completely redesigned- to handle future massive traffic.
Social Rating - Why
Consumers live in an increasingly complex world. They are confronted with an overwhelming number of stimuli (TV, events, products, messages, places, people, peer pressure, etc.). It has become more and more difficult to assess their value, to choose and respond to them. Social media can help to find out what to do and to see by means of real time feedback from others, such as the public, friends, or other groups. Yel is designed to help their users to find, evaluate, share and to learn.
The requirements for participation in the rating of events with Yel is an internet connection (Wifi, 3G or GPRS) and a HTML5 supported browser (IE9, Safari, Chrome, Opera9, Firefox 3.5). Tested on iOS2 and higher (iPad, iPhone), Android 2.1 and higher, Blackberry (6.0) Bold/Curve/Torch. Currently not supported: Symbian devices (Nokia)
We use oAuth to connect to Twitter. If you have a guest Yel account, it is better to upgrade because guest account's runs only on the device and aren't transferable.
